All I could think was, I think that is the biggest scariest guy I have ever seen.

That's part of his arm on the right.

That's part of his arm on the right.

So there I was, standing in front of this giant bouncer asking for my ID.  I think he could have crushed my head between his toes.

On the way I got a detailed tutorial of downtown and where to visit.  Turns out Nolan used to be a tour guide at the Ryman.  He knows everything about Nashville.

“Okay, you have to go to Tootsie’s.  The stage door to the Ryman was there years ago.  After their performances, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Elvis…they would all go out the stage door, cut across the alleyway and duck into Tootsies to hang with local Nashville people.  You have got to see it.  I want to hear stories!”

He dropped me off at the corner of Broadway and 2nd Avenue right next to the Hard Rock Cafe.  I thought to myself, I am alone in a strange city.  Mom must never find out.  Except for Nashville people are nice, and Nolan said that he would come get me if I got scared.

I hadn’t had my ID out since I was in airport mode and I had to dig it out.  I couldn’t help but looking at the forboding (and admittedly attractive) bouncer.  I think it was because he seemed somehow still so…I don’t know…nice?  His face showed a mixture of confusion and pity when he saw what state I was from.  He laughed.

Tootsie’s was spilling out onto the sidewalk.  I asked the bouncer, “Is there room?”  He laughed.

I cluelessly waded in.
